TWO INDOOR TENNIS CENTRES WITH ADJOINING OUTDOOR COURTS

John Schofield Tennis Centre Ltd operates and manages two indoor tennis venues in East Lancashire, Ribble Valley Tennis Centre and the Blackburn Northern Tennis Dome.

The indoor courts at Ribble Valley Tennis Centre are wholly owned by JSTC with the adjoining outdoor courts operated by Ribble Valley Borough Council.

The Blackburn Northern Tennis Dome is owned by Blackburn Northern, the premier club in East Lancashire. It is a multi-sport members club with facilities for cricket, squash and hockey as well as tennis. JSTC has a contract to manage the indoor courts on behalf of the club. Other tennis facilities at the club include four outdoor synthetic grass tennis courts and a Kidszone 'mini-tennis court' as well as modern changing rooms and a newly refurbished clubhouse.

JSTC runs a comprehensive coaching programme across both venues (see coaching link for details). There also various junior matchplay opportunities for pupils on the programme (see matchplay link).

Blackburn Northern Tennis Dome

Pleckgate Road, Blackburn

The indoor courts at Blackburn Northern are available to both club members and the general public. Courts can be booked on a casual basis by using the online booking system on this website. There are also opportunities to make a block booking for the whole year or just the winter only. Please e-mail admin@tennis-centre.co.uk if you have an interest in a block booking.

The other playing facilities at the club including the squash courts and outdoor tennis courts are for use by club members only. For information on membership please visit club website, www.blackburnnorthern.org.uk

Blackburn Northern runs several tennis teams in both local and national leagues and has performed creditably in both County and National competitions over recent years. Junior and mixed teams have reached National Finals, whilst mens and ladies teams have both enjoyed success in County competitions. 

The club also runs club social play for the less competitive minded player.

Directions  

The club is situated just off the Blackburn ring road (A6119).

From M65 Junction 6 follow signs for Blackburn North & Clitheroe. Keep on the ring road at the major junction with the A666. At the next set of traffic lights turn left onto Pleckgate Road by the Knowles Arms pub. After 400 yards take a right turn just after a telephone box into a concrete lane which leads to the club entrance.

From M6 Junction 31 follow signs for Blackburn. At the second set of traffic lights turn left onto the Blackburn ring road (A6119). At the second set of lights turn right onto Pleckgate Road.

Ribble Valley Tennis Centre

Edisford Road, Clitheroe

Ribble Valley Tennis Centre is in the market town of Clitheroe. It is situated in Lancashire's most scenic countryside adjacent to the River Ribble, a swimming pool and a leisure centre.

Facilities include two indoor plexicushion courts plus four outdoor artificial grass courts. All the courts are available on a pay and play basis with no membership requirement. For details on the court booking system please send an e-mail to admin@tennis-centre.co.uk with your name and address.

The online booking system for this venue is not currently active but may be introduced later in 2005.

Directions

The Centre is situated on Edisford Road which is the main Longridge Road out of the town.

From the A59 follow signs for Clitheroe. On reaching Clitheroe follow the sign for Longridge and the brown sign for swimming pool and sports centre. The Tennis Centre is approximately one mile from the town on the right hand side of Edisford Road. The car park is on the lefthand side of the road opposite the Centre.
