Match Play

BLACKBURN NORTHERN & RIBBLE VALLEY SINGLES BOX LEAGUE SPONSORED BY RIBBLE VALLEY TENNIS CENTRE

The leagues are run primarily for the benefit of the players on coaching groups at R.V.T.C. & B.N., as playing regular matches is essential for improvement.
It is also run for the benefit of local clubs who we hope will benefit from extra membership / usage.
To give players the opportunity for improvement through close matches against similar standard opposition, and also to improve their L.T.A. rating.

All players (if aged 10 or over) must have a current L.T.A. rating. (Forms supplied)
All matches between the same sex count towards L.T.A. rating.
The leagues are open to both boys and girls.
Matches will be the best of 3 tie break sets.
Generally there will be 3 players in each box. Players will play 2 matches per month.
Obviously numbers may not always be divisable by 3, so this may occasionally vary.
Boxes will be re-drawn at the end of each calendar month. The first month will be September and the last April.
The top player from each box moves up, the bottom player moves down and the middle one stays, so each player soon finds his or her level.

It is essential that players committ to playing their matches each month. There is nothing worse than being in a group with people who can`t be bothered to play or make contact. A few such people can collapse the whole system. For this reason anyone not playing their matches will be withdrawn the following month.
Each player will be given registered player status at Ribble Valley Tennis Centre. Players will be issued with a booking number which they should quote when booking a court by phone. Indoor box league courts are given at the subsidised rate of £8 per hour, ( a 2 hour booking will normally be needed to complete a best of 3 set match ). Court costs to be shared between both players. Players should not cancel courts at short notice as obviously the courts could have been used by others. In such cases the player ‘crying off’ will be billed.
Indoor facilities will of course guarantee your matches throughout the Winter months. We are aware, however, that tennis can be an expensive game, R.V.T.C. outdoor courts and local clubs can also be used. You would of course need to be a member of any club concerned and arrange your matches as appropriate.
You need to inform us of your LTA rating and membership number as soon as you receive it, as we are unable to process your results without it.
